Goodluck Jonathan Reacts As Myanmar's Soldiers Stage Coup, Takes Over Govt.

On Monday, the Myanmar military staged a coup and took power by arresting high-ranking politicians, including Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

An advertisement read on the military-owned Myawaddy TV said that the commander-in-chief, Major General Min Aung Hlaing, would be in charge of the country for a year.

He said the seizure was necessary because the government had failed to act on allegations of fraud by the military in the November elections.
