Minister seeks community’s support on a re-awarded irrigation project
The Oyo State Government has recommenced payment of the Federal Government-assisted Conditional Cash Transfer to beneficiaries across the 33 local councils of the state.

The payment, which will extend to other local councils in the state, kicked off at Ibadan South-West Headquarters, Aleshinloye and Ona Ara Local Council Secretariat, Akanran.

The Head of Unit in the state, Mr. Ezekiel Oladipo, who spoke with newsmen during the monitoring exercise, said that the programme started in Oyo State in 2016 and about 13,813 beneficiaries across the councils had been benefiting since inception.

He further said that the programme had three major components, which are designed to deliver timely and accessible cash transfers to beneficiary households.
In their separate remarks, the Executive Chairman, Ona Ara Local Council, Sanusi Adesina and his counterpart in Ido, Sherif Adeojo, appreciated the Federal Government for the laudable gesture.

While they promised to continue to support the downtrodden in the society through various empowerment programmes, they equally advised the beneficiaries to take care of their health and ensure the judicious use of the cash given to them.

IN another development, Minister of Water Resources, Sulaimon Adamu, has written a letter seeking the support of the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdulganiy Salawudeen Adekunle Oloogunebi (Ajinese 1), on the re-awarded and re-designed Middle Ogun River Project situated along Iseyin-Oyo Road in Iseyin Local Council of Oyo State.

Managing Director, Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority, Olufemi Odumosu and a director in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Mrs. Oluniyi Esther, hand-delivered the letter to the monarch in his palace.

Odumosu said the project was re-designed to now include power generation to the national grid, as well as provide irrigation service, which will give farmers in the Oke-Ogun region the opportunity to farm all year round.

The Aseyin of Iseyin, in his response, appreciated the minister and the delegation for what he called ‘good news’ brought from Abuja for the benefit of the people of Iseyin and Oke-Ogun in general, promising the full support of the people of the community for the project.

He said the project could not have come any other better time than the period of the take-off of the College of Agricultural Science and Renewable Resources of LAUTECH.
