President Muhammadu Buhari has applauded Governor Babagana Zulum for his handling of the Boko Haram insurgency and #EndSARS protests in Borno State.

He gave the commendation while addressing stakeholders, including the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Ibn El-Kanemi, and 59 district heads at Government House, Maiduguri.

Represented by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Mustapha Shehuri, the Nigerian leader said the successful resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced persons, as well as housing for civil servants and employees of 776 teachers for the state’s secondary schools, were some of the governor’s responsive leadership attributes that should be emulated.

Buhari said: “ I specifically acknowledged the exemplary, unique and selfless leadership style you displayed in the distribution of COVID-19 palliatives, direct cash transfer/empowerment and construction of houses for the internally displaced persons (IDPs).”

The minister was in Maiduguri in compliance with the President’s directive to members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to liaise with stakeholders in their states on a lasting peace in the aftermath of the nationwide #EndSARS demonstrations.

Zulum, however, commended his youths for comporting themselves orderly.

He warned that Borno could not afford another round of crisis on account of its history of insurgencies.

Speaking in his capacity, the minister appealed to young Nigerians across the federation to end the ongoing burgling of warehouses for COVID-19 palliatives.

A statement by the Information Officer in the ministry, Ikemefuna Ezeaja, said the engagement was to placate all aggrieved parties for lasting peace, security, and development.
