Anglicans of the Diocese On the Coast in Ondo State have appealed to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s administration to ensure that electricity supply is restored to the southern district covering Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje, and Ese-Odo local councils.

The Anglicans, who noted that the economies of the four local councils had been destroyed since they were cut off from the national grid in 2014, lamented that the state government had allowed the situation to linger, leading to a high level of poverty and unemployment, as well as criminal activities in the affected areas.

At the first session of the ninth Synod of the diocese held at the Cathedral of Ebenezer in Ilutitun, the Bishop, Rt. Revd. Oluseyi Olaoluwa Pirisola, in his charge, admonished the government to revive the ailing firms in the state, including the Okitipupa Oil Palm Plc and Oluwa Glass Company, to boost the industrialisation drive of the current administration and provide employment opportunities for the teeming jobless youths.

He called for repair of the Ore-Okitipupa, Igbotako-Irowa, Gbagada-Ajegunle-Ayede, and Oloto-Ayetumara roads, and extension of the provision of potable water to all nooks and crannies of the state.
The Synod lauded Akeredolu for the resuscitation of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology at Okitipupa, provision of an ultra-modern intensive care unit at the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences and procurement of equipment and consumables for the general hospitals, as well as the establishment of an industrial hub at Ore where some cottage industries have started operation.

Bishop Pirisola, who urged Nigerians to be hopeful of a better country, despite the current challenges, advised the Federal Government to overhaul the nation’s power generation and distribution strategies, with a view to ensuring that electricity supply is made more efficient and affordable and to tackle poverty and unemployment to check crime rate.

The four-day event was attended by the Dean Emeritus, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Adebola Ademowo; his wife, Oluranti; Bishop of Kafanchan Diocese, Kaduna State, Rt. Revd. Marcus Dogo; Bishop of Igbomina West Diocese, Rt. Revd. Jide Adebayo; Majuwa of Moribodo Kingdom, Ilutitun, Oba Ernest Idepefo; Oniju of Iju-Odo, Oba Festus Olumoyegun, and government officials.
