Sierra Leone ex-president questioned over graft probe
WASHINGTON, DC – APRIL 17: Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma attends a meeting about the fight against the Ebola outbreak in West Africa during the World Bank-International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings April 17, 2015 in Washington, DC. The World Bank announced Friday that it would provide an additional US$650 million over the next year to help Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to recover from the social, economic and health impact of the Ebola crisis. Ernest Bai Koroma, Sierra Leone’s ex president was on Monday questioned by a commission investigating alleged corruption and embezzlement committed during his presidency, Africa News reported, saying that two officials confirmed the news on condition of anonymity.

A commission member said that the former head of state was questioned at a secret location after his hearing was cancelled twice for security reasons.

After the current President Julius Maada Bio promised to recover tens of millions of dollars that have disappeared in his fight against corruption and waste of public funds, several former officials of the Koroma administration have also been arrested.

In March, a commission of inquiry concluded that millions of dollars remained unaccounted for after reviewing the accounts of ministries and state-owned enterprises, dating back to Koroma’s years in office between 2007 and 2018.
