The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Kenya has surpassed the 4.9 million mark as the country pushes on with its target to inoculate 10 million people by December and 27 million by the end of 2022.
According to the latest data by the health ministry, 4,902, 772 vaccine doses had been administered across the country by Saturday. Of these, 3,943,570 are partially vaccinated while 1,414,202 are fully inoculated.
The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 5.2%.
Kenya rolled out its mass vaccination exercise in March 2021, initially targeting persons considered to be at high risk, including the elderly, people with underlying health conditions and healthcare workers.
The vaccines that have been approved for use in the East African country include AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, Sinovac and Johnson & Johnson.
So far, Kenya has reported 252,628 COVID-19 infections with 5,255 fatalities.
