EU withdraws Morocco from safe country travel list
FILE: European Union removes Morocco from its safe list of countries

The European Union has removed Morocco from its safe list of countries from which the bloc allows non-essential travel, after a review by EU ambassadors on Friday.

Morocco’s borders have largely been closed since mid-March in support of the efforts seeking to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Morocco made an exception by opening borders strictly for citizens, residents, and their families since July 15.

The move now leaves 10 countries on the new list, which takes effect August 8, after the EU also excluded Algeria last week.

The safe countries deemed to have the coronavirus pandemic largely under control are Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, and Uruguay.

China has also been approved, although travel would only open up if Chinese authorities also allowed in EU visitors.
