Nine soldiers lost their lives in an attack by unidentified gunmen against army detachment Monday in the central north of Burkina Faso, the national television RTB reported.
The attack targeted the army detachment of Yirgou, Sanmatenga province, at 5am on Monday morning, RTB said, quoting the latest statement from the armed forces of Burkina Faso.
Nine soldiers were killed and five were injured, it said, adding that attackers went away with several vehicles and weapons and set fire to some devices.
On Saturday, about ten terrorists were killed by the army in the commune of Pobe-Mengo, in the Sahel region, according to a report by the national news agency AIB.
Also, five civilians were killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen at Markoye the same day in the same region, according to AIB.
Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been facing a worsening security situation with terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of over a thousand people and displaced thousands of others.
