Cote d’Ivoire has announced that all Ebola contact cases will be vaccinated against the disease.
Speaking during a press conference on the status of the Ebola virus disease in the country, the Minister of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal health coverage, Pierre Dimba, announced that all contact cases will be vaccinated, in order to avoid the spread of the disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that as of August 18, six high-risk contacts had been quarantined and 131 contacts listed in Cote d’Ivoire.
No deaths have been reported, neither have there been any other new infections.
Dimba also said that the 18-year-old girl hospitalized due to the virus after arriving from neighboring Guinea is stable.
The country has already received 5,000 doses of Ebola vaccine to fight against the disease.
Côte d’Ivoire on August 14 declared the first case of the Ebola hemorrhagic virus in 25 years.
This came after the Institut Pasteur in Cote d’Ivoire confirmed the Ebola Virus Disease in samples collected from a patient, who was hospitalized in the commercial capital Abidjan, after arriving from Guinea.
Guinea experienced a four-month long Ebola outbreak, which was declared over on the 19 June 2021.
