Bus, lorry collision in southern Ethiopia leaves 11 dead
truck accident ahead on the road.

A collision between a transport bus and a lorry in southern Ethiopia left 11 people dead, officials said on Monday.

In a press statement, Gurage zone communication, Southern regional state, said a transport bus travelling on the road collided with a lorry travelling on the opposite side of the road resulting in the death of 11 people. The accident happened on Monday morning.

The statement further said 13 other people who sustained light to medium injuries are currently being treated in nearby medical facilities.

Police are currently investigating the possible causes of the deadly traffic accident.

Although Ethiopia has one of the lowest per capita ownership rates in the world, deadly traffic accidents are fairly common, with the blame put on bad roads, reckless driving, a flawed driving license issuance system and lax enforcement of safety rules.
