Africa’s confirmed COVID-19 cases pass 1.3 million mark: Africa CDC

The number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases across the African continent surpassed 1,306,157, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said Tuesday.

The continental disease control and prevention agency in a statement issued on Tuesday stressed that the death toll related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic rose to 31,494 so far.

The Africa CDC said that some 1,045,083 people who had been infected with COVID-19 have recovered across the continent as of Tuesday.

The most affected African countries in terms of the number of positive cases include South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Ethiopia and Nigeria, according to the Africa CDC.

South Africa has so far reported 639,362 cases and 15,004 deaths as of Tuesday, it was noted.

On Tuesday, Egypt which has the second-highest COVID-19 cases in the continent, officially became the second African country to pass the 100,000 COVID-19 infections milestone.

Egypt has reported 100,041 positive cases and 5,541 COVID-19 related deaths as of Tuesday, according to the Africa CDC
