The police in Adamawa state has arrested a 19-year-old woman, Rumasa’u Muhammed, of Wuro Yanka Village in Shelleng local government area for allegedly stabbing her husband to death.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, said the suspect who was forcefully married off three weeks ago, killed her husband while asking for a divorce.

”The suspect was arrested on Monday for allegedly stabbing her husband, Muhammed Adamu, 35 to death after seeking for a divorce.

Investigation so far reveals, that the suspect was forcefully married to the deceased by her parents against her will on Aug. 6” Nguroje said

A family source claimed the suspect had demanded that her late husband divorce her peacefully since she was not interested in the marriage but he refused. She got angry and stabbed him in the stomach with a knife. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

The police spokesperson said the state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Alhaji, has ordered the immediate prosecution of the suspect so as to serve as deterrence to others. Aliyu has also called on parents to stop forcing their wards into early and forceful marriages.
