Rundown Of Happenings During The Week

Strange sightings, individual wars, and the effect of disobedience of the people obeying orders all happened amid the coronavirus scare. Coupled with the extension of the lockdown in Nigeria, this has indeed been an interesting week.

From ghost scares to arguments on the biggest stars, Here is a rundown of the week:

Rapture postponed
A Kenyan pastor, Prophet Owuor who is the head of The Ministry of Holiness and Repentance, had reportedly made a prophecy that the world would come to an end on 11th April 2020 and that he knew the place where the rapture would happen. However, in a statement by The Ministry of Holiness and Repentance, the church warned that the rumours were false and misleading and that they were engineered by the enemies of God and mentioned that the church further stated that nobody knows when the world would end.

“Nobody Badder than…”
Nigerian singer Brymo is the latest competitor laying claims to the crown as Nigeria’s biggest and better artiste. The 33-year-old singer made the claim amid heated exchanges with Nigerian social media users who berate the singer for some of his spirited statements on the platform. In one of his tweets, Brymo responded with “Who are those?” after a twitter user stated that none of the singer’s music in the last 5 years would make as much wave as Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido’s albums and singles. In a subsequent tweet, Brymo tweeted that Nigerians rate people that sample music and copy legacy.

Apology (not) accepted
US chain McDonald’s has apologised after a sign telling black people they were banned from entering a branch in southern China prompted outrage online, following reports of discriminatory treatment towards Africans in the city. Riding on the tensions arising between Africans, the police and the Chinese in the southern metropolis of Guangzhou, the post was widely shared online causing McDonald’s to apologise with claims that it is not representative of the chain, remove the sign and temporarily close the Guangzhou restaurant. In the wake of this, Africans have accused the Chinese of being “xenophobic” towards them.

Ghosts in the city
As citizens in different countries refuse to obey the sit-at-home order in the wake of the coronavirus, Kepuh village in Indonesia has decided to scare its citizens into obeying its order. The village on Java island has deployed a cast of “ghosts” to patrol the streets, hoping that age-old superstition will keep people indoors and safely away from the coronavirus. To make this effective, local authorities began paying village volunteers to play the part of the ghosts which makes the villagers run off in fright at the sight of the ‘ghosts’. Shriek!

Quarantine Radio versus IK
Canadian entertainer, Tory Lanez, has gained quite a new audience since the coronavirus pandemic as he has started a happy show “Quarantine Radio,” attracting hundreds of thousands.
However, it appears that Lanez had gotten tired of one of Nigeria’s actor, IK Ogbonna over his continual usage of the Nigerian flag on his Instagram Live. “Special announcement, maybe the most special announcement all day, IK Ogbonna please stop posting the same flag,” he said. Despite the “special announcement,” the hunky Nollywood star continued and this made the rapper call him out again. Whatever happened to supporting patriotism?
