A charity organisation, Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial (DOAM) Foundation, has dewormed vulnerable children in Lagos and Ogun states to enhance their growth and health.

In a two-day outreach held at Out of School Children Centre, Oshodi, Magnificent Therapy Center & Home for Children, Yaba and Christ the Light of Hope Orphanage Home, Akute, multivitamins and other micro-nutrients were also administered on the children to help alleviate some of the healthcare challenges, such as malnutrition and wasting.

The foundation’s Programme Officer for Health, Catherine Olukotun, disclosed that the outreach was part of activities marking this year’s Children’s Day. Other activities, she added, included sensitising citizens on the need for routine de-worming, intake of vitamins, supplements and advantages of physical exercises to combat gastrointestinal worms and boost the immunity of children against infections.

In addition, there was donation of food items, such bags of rice, cassava flakes, tubers of yam, noodles, bags of salt and vegetable oil.

The foundation’s Programme Officer for Education, Akinsode Fatima, said it was to reach out to the children who might feel neglected after a prolonged holiday due to the pandemic-induced lockdown.

She stated that it was an opportunity for DOAM to demonstrate its core mission of touching lives, showing love and support to the vulnerable and under-privileged children.

“As the coronavirus crisis bars children and youths from schools, the underprivileged kids depend on everyday people, celebrities, corporate organisations and humanitarian agencies for support,” she added.
