Corps members tasked on unity, development as they take oath

Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been called upon to promote national unity and contribute to the development of their places of primary assignment.

This came from governors of different states and other stakeholders during the swearing-in of the 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream II of the corps in their respective states. Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello spoke to them at the NYSC orientation camp, Kabba, where 1,400 corps members took oath.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Sani Ogu-Salisu, the governor urged them to respect camp officials and obey regulations to have a memorable camp experience.

In Plateau State, no fewer than 1,485 corps members deployed to the state were sworn in.Speaking during the ceremony at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Mangu, Governor Simon Lalong, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Mrs. Helen Ishaya, described the NYSC as a veritable vehicle for mobilising educated Nigerian youths towards national orientation and rebirth.

Assuring them of maximum security, he said: “Let me draw your attention to the need to disregard fake news and rumour by people who thrive in promoting crises for their selfish interests in Plateau. Peace has since returned to the state and the government is doing everything within its power to ensure that this is sustained”

Also, Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel called on Nigerians to maintain the unity the NYSC had fostered in the country.He made the call while 1,427 corps members deplored to the state were taking oath.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, on his part, described NYSC as a tool for national tolerance and cohesion, which are harbingers of national development.

Making the statement yesterday at the swearing-in of corps members deployed to the state, the governor explained that the scheme had proven to be a tool for national integration, manpower development and socio-cultural tolerance since inception.

Meanwhile, Governors Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Muhammadu Badaru of Jigawa, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia as well as the deputy governor of Zamfara, Mahadi Aliyu-Gusau, also assured corps members posted to their states of adequate security during their one year stay.
