The new James Bond movie No Time to Die just added more carbon fiber to its cast with the announcement that the 25th film in the series will feature the 715-hp Aston Martin DBS Superleggera.

The number of cylinders in a DBS have doubled since its first feature in a James Bond film, which began all the way back to 1969 with On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and this will be the fourth time a DBS has been in the series. Aston Martin revealed on Twitter that Bond cars of the past will also be in this title, and it seems likely they’ll be outfitted with the same sneaky spy gear you’d expect, along with escapes from low-flying helicopters and villains with big guns that never empty their magazines.

The two-door tourer quickly became synonymous with the Bond franchise, complete with its ejector seat, oil dispenser, and revolving license plate to help the hero evade the bad guys. It’s puzzling that Aston Martin didn’t immediately use that technology in its road cars after the film was released.

If you prefer your Bond cars to be equipped with forward-firing missiles, lasers, and a self-destruct mechanism, the V8 Vantage from the 1987 film The Living Daylights checks these boxes. This car was way ahead of its time, as it also featured a taste of future car technology with a red head-up display on its windshield to help with missile targeting. A rear license plate that once flipped upward revealed a rocket, which gave the V8 Vantage a quick power boost. Think of it as an extreme version of a Sport button.

The mid-engine Aston Martin Valhalla is also set to appear in this film, meaning it will showcase one of 500 the company said it will build. The Valhalla features an F1-inspired powertrain with a turbocharged V-6 hybrid system. Aston Martin hasn’t revealed yet whether the production version will fire land mines or be able to operate 500 feet underwater, but we can hope.

We’ve found that unlike in past film titles such as You Only Live Twice, Live and Let Die, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Die Another Day, that it would turn out modern-day Bond, played by Daniel Craig, just doesn’t have the bandwidth for death anymore. He’s probably so busy going from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds in his twin-turbo 5.2-liter V-12 DBS Superleggerra that, when it comes to dying, he honestly just can’t be bothered by it. Watch Bond escape bullets next year in April once the film releases.

Past, present and future.

To mark the 25th Bond film, #NoTimeToDie, four of our cars will be featured in the film.
