UK Star Trek: Discovery fans have been left disappointed after the season 4 launch on Netflix was scrapped.

This news was confirmed on Wednesday on Star Trek’s official Twitter account. The statement announced that that future seasons (and all the previous) of the show would be available exclusively via Paramount+.

In the message shared to Twitter – titled “To our international #StarTrekDiscovery fans…” – the franchise explained that season 4 would now “premiere exclusively where Paramount+ is available in early 2022.”

It added: “This means the new season, and all previous seasons, will be available internationally in 2022 as Paramount+ expands globally.”

The message also confirmed that season 4 will still debut on November 18 as initially planned in the US and Canada.

However, this news comes at the wrong timing as streaming platform Paramount+ won’t launch in the UK and other territories until 2022. This pushes the season’s proposed launch in this region back as Netflix had initially planned to debut the new season just two days later (on Friday, November 19).

Fans in other regions around the world will have to wait until next year – meaning they’re also going to have to try to avoid spoilers online, something which has sparked great frustration.

To make matters seemingly worse, previous seasons of the sci-fi show were also pulled from Netflix to anticipate Paramount+’s big international debut.

In August, it was announced that Paramount+ would be coming to the UK, as its parent company ViacomCBS teamed up with Sky to launch the streaming service.

ViacomCBS international streaming boss Kelly Day explained the decision to Deadline, saying: “As we rapidly expand our global streaming footprint, we are bringing more of our top titles home to ViacomCBS for Paramount+ markets around the world.”

“We have a strong global and local content pipeline that positions us for success across our regions, and repatriating beloved series like Star Trek: Discovery for Paramount+ is another step forward as we bring fans more must-watch series worldwide.”
