Ellen’s Game Of Games first made its entrance on NBC in 2017 and had eight-episode orders, originally serving as a holiday season fill-in for the network. In the show, contestants would play a series of quirky games that originated from the 63-year-old comedian’s talk show in the hopes of winning $100,000.
News of the game show’s cancellation comes amid the 19th and final season of DeGeneres’ long-running CBS talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Ellen announced in May this season would be her final one after 18 years, following complaints of a toxic workplace from staff on the show that led to an internal probe from Warner Bros.
Ellen addressed the ‘toxic’ work environment allegations during the season 18 premiere in September 2020.
She told viewers: ‘All right, let’s get to it. As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show. And then there was an investigation.
‘I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.
‘I know that I am in a position of privilege and power and I realize that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility at what happens at my show.
‘This is The Ellen DeGeneres Show. I am Ellen DeGeneres. We have had a lot of conversations over the last few weeks about the show, our workplace and what we want for the future. We have made the necessary changes and today, we are starting a new chapter.’
Season 19 of The Ellen DeGeneres premiered in September 2021 and is slated to conclude in the spring.
Ellen’s Game Of Games had a 48-episode run earning DeGeneres two Emmy nominations from Primetime in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
