Thinking of travelling here is a new trend of country-hopping three to five in a week today in Nigeria, and it is not a completely ludicrous idea to try out yourself.
Here is an easy itinerary to consider:
Day 1:
Depart Lagos at 5:30 am. Drive to the Seme-Kpodji border is about 3 – 4 hours without traffic. Estimated arrival time should be between 9:30 am – 11:00 am.
With a solid start in Benin Republic, you can hire a car or take a bus down to the capital of Porto Novo.
From 19th Century Homes with Colonial Architectural Design of Landmarks such as the Grand Mosque, Museums displaying conserved traditional artifacts, and walking around the almost untouched old city district. This is a good place to learn about the diversity of various ethnic groups in the country and how they find links to remain united.
Stay the night and hop in a cab headed or drive in your hired car to Ouidah. It’s about 1500CFA – 2500CFA (N975 – N1625). There is so much to do here.
Day 2:
Take a tour of the Ouidah Museum of History, Temple of Pythons, Door of No Return, and Museum of the Zinsou Foundation which of all give chronicles of the slave-trading past of the city. Have lunch, and spend the night at the famous and most tourist resort of Benin Republic, Casa Del Papa. This is 15 – 20 minutes’ drive from the Door of No Return, and cost between a pricey and worth it sum of 33,000CFA – 55,000CFA ( N21,450 – N35,750) per night of an Oceanview room.
Day 3:
Head to the border town of Hillacondji of Benin – Aneho Togo. A beautiful detour to the beach town of Grand Popo where you can visit the shrimp fishing and salt mining villages around La Bouche du Roi (the mouth of the king). Also, see where the river floats into the sea. Proceed to the border, stamping out of Benin Republic and stamping into Togo.
Day 4
In Togo, once colloquially called the Paris of Africa, the breathtaking beaches of Aneho are the first sight to take in. Then head to Agbodrafo where you can take a 30ft ride down a waterslide at O’Lodge. Head down to Lome, Togo where you can visit the Grande Marche (Grand Market), the Togo National Museum and have tasty french cuisines at low-end grill bars at the beachfront or the high-end restaurants close to the city centre.
Day 5
You can head to the Southwest of Togo to Kpalime, to dance and swim in the waterfalls of the Plateux Region and climb the highest peak of Mount Agou. By mid-afternoon depart for the Greater Accra Region, Ghana.
After spending almost 4 – 6 hours ride along Aflao road, you’ll find yourself in the Greater Accra Region which is fast becoming a must-visit destination by tourists from across the world!
Day 6 – 7
In Accra, visit Osu Castle, The Independence Arch, the Black Star Gate, Statue of Emancipation and Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.
