Demi Lovato Reveals Why No One Should Use The Term 'Alien'

Demi Lovato has condemned the term ‘alien,’ used to refer to extraterrestrials, as derogatory.

The 29-year-old singer revealed this while answering fan theory questions in an exclusive interview on E! News The Rundown with Erin Lim. “I do not have a song called ‘Aliens,’ the singer said, responding to rumours about the unreleased “Aliens” song.

Adding that, while it sounds cool, they noted that if they were to have a song about extraterrestrials, it would likely have a different title. Speaking further, Lovato said, “My fans should know that I do not call them aliens because ‘alien’ is a derogatory term for anything, even extraterrestrials, which is why I call them ETs.”

They also noted that the term alien is irked by misconceptions that extraterrestrials are “harmful or that they’ll come and take over the planet.”

Responding to a follow-up question about if they might do an ET song in the future, Lovato said, “I feel like Katy Perry already did it.” When asked if the thought had popped up at any time, the two-time Grammy award nominee said, “Not really, but I’m fast on my feet.”

This interview comes after the release of Peacock’s Unidentified with Demi. A four-part series that explores the singer’s exploration of what might live beyond earth as well as their attempt to contact Extraterrestrial life.

Demi Lovato in May came out as non-binary and changed their pronouns to they/them in a heartfelt video post. In the minute and a half long video, the star explained that she had been doing some healing and self-reflection before making the move to come out.

They revealed, “The past year and a half, I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I’ve had this revelation that I identify as non-binary. With that said, I’ll officially be changing my pronouns to they/them.”
