Ezra Blount, the 9-year-old boy, placed in a medically induced coma after being injured at the Astroworld Tragedy in Houston, reportedly died on Sunday.

Ezra Blount’s death was confirmed in a tweet by Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner.

Announcing his death, Mr Turner wrote on Twitter, “Our city tonight prays for his mom, dad, grandparents, other family members and classmates at this time.” “They will need all of our support in the months and years to come. May God give them strength,” he continued.

The 9-year-old boy is the 10th and youngest person to die from injuries sustained at the Astroworld 2021 festival.

He had been placed in a medically induced coma from injuries his family believes he sustained after being trampled at the Nov. 5 festival. Astroworld 2021 was an outdoor concert in Houston headlined by the rapper Travis Scott attended by 50,000. The festival took a tragic turn following a crowd surge near the stage during Scott’s performance.

A big Travis Scott fan, Ezra had spent the concert on the shoulders of his father, Treston Blount, which unfortunately ended in tragedy as the boy became one of more than 300 people who sustained injuries.

Dozens of other attendees, several of them minors, like Ezra, were in critical condition afterwards.

Detailing the tragic evening on a GoFundMe page, Mr Blount revealed that he had passed out from lack of oxygen. When he regained consciousness, he had no idea where his son was, and by the time they were reunited, his son had swelling in the brain and “trauma in nearly all organs,” Mr Blount wrote.

As Ezra spent time in the hospital, his father continued to document his condition on the GoFundMe page, where thousands of people made donations.

“Thank you, everyone, for what you have done for my family,” Mr Blount wrote on Nov. 11. “Please keep hope alive and never stop praying.”

The Blount family previously filed a lawsuit against Travis Scott, Live Nation Entertainment, promoters of the concert; and others.

Dozens more have filed lawsuits, and the Houston Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation into the festival to determine the cause of the surge.
