Former Liverpool midfielder states Lionel Messi will remain at Barcelona.

The Argentine forward recently turned 33 and is reportedly having an uncertain future due to disagreements with the management. Not long ago, Lionel Messi scored his 700th career goal and looks to be getting better with age.

According to former Barcelona and Liverpool midfielder, Luis Garcia, Messi has another five years in him to play football at the highest level.

The maestro’s future under Barcelona has come under a lot of speculation after reports surfacing of his exit in 2021. Club president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, seems confident that Leo will stay on and renew his contract but according to Messi’s father, Jorge, that will only be possible if Xavi Hernandez, former teammate, and midfielder, is brought on as Club Manager.

Despite being 33 years of age, the Maestro remains top of the table in both of La Liga rankings with 22 goals and 19 assists under his belt in 2019-20.

According to Garcia, who left the Spanish side for the Premier League side in 2004 with Liverpool, says the G. O. A. T. has got an adaptable style that will keep him playing until he’s closing on 40 years of age.

“Why not? The way he is playing, adapting his style to the game is impressive. Every year he shows us something different but keeps up the same amount of goals, of assists. Even getting more every year! He shows why he’s so intelligent. He adapts his game to what the team needs in every game. I could see him playing in 2025, easily!” said Garcia.

With the current uncertainty surrounding the Argentine’s future at the club, there will likely be a bidding war of clubs to avail of his services. Former Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City seems to be named as a possible destination for Messi. The Spanish Coach, however, seems reluctant to comment on this and has reiterated his desire for Messi to remain at Barcelona.

“I’m not going to speak about transfers until the end of the season. My wish is that Messi is going to stay in Barcelona” said the former Barca boss.

After the recent victory of the Catalans against Espanyol, current Barca boss, Quique Setien could be staying until the end of the Season and Messi could very well choose to leave if things don’t improve at Camp Nou.
