- Lucescu says that he and Messi know each other well as they’ve met 10 times.
- The Dynamo coach reveals that Leo called him a ‘strong person’ when they met in the hallway after the match.
“Messi made his debut for Barcelona in the Champions League back in December 2004 in a match against Shakhtar [where I was the coach]. We’ve met nine times since then. We greet each other, we shake hands,” Dynamo Kyiv coach Mircea Lucescu has told Digi Sport Special.
“I called him ‘Leo!’, that’s how I felt like saying, and then went to talk to him.
“And I told him: ‘I have the shirt of a great player on my wall, Pele, and I want Messi’s shirt to be next to it’. That’s it. He made a gesture that he’ll give it to me upstairs.
“After that, he told me: ‘You’re an extremely strong person.’ That’s normal in sports, the respect is extraordinary. What could have Messi done? Turn his back to me?”
As a reminder, cameras captured Lucescu asking for Messi’s shirt after the Champions League clash. Leo and the Romanian boss will meet for the 11th time on November 24 as Barca pay a visit to Dynamo.
