Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) election observers have arrived in Abidjan for tomorrow’s presidential polls in Cote d’ Ivoire.

Eighty interim monitors are joining their 10 long-term counterparts who have in the last 12 days been consulting with politicians and other interest groups in the French-speaking country.

Head of ECOWAS Election Observation Mission and former Prime Minister of Senegal, Cheikh Hadjibou Soumaré, landed the Ivoirien capital yesterday.

The sub-regional body’s Authority of Heads of State and Government said it was determined to ensure the outcome of the exercise reflects the will of the people and conforms to the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance of 2001.
