Lagos orders resumption of remaining classes in public, private schools

Plans rehabilitation of Lekki-Epe roads

The Lagos State government has said that all the remaining classes in both public and private schools in the state will resume from Monday, October 19, 2020.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, who disclosed this, yesterday, said that this decision was taken after careful deliberations and consultations with relevant stakeholders, including safety professionals and nursery school providers.

According to a statement by the ministry’s Head of Media, Kayode Abayomi, the physical resumption, which is for 2020/2021 academic session, will now include pupils in pre-primary; daycare, kindergarten and nursery schools.

The commissioner enjoined school owners and managers of all private schools to ensure that they are cleared by the Office of Education Quality Assurance before physical resumption.
“All public and private schools are strongly advised to put safety first by adhering to the COVID-19 safety protocols and hygiene guidelines as instructed by the state government through the Ministry of Education.

“The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) will continue to monitor and evaluate schools’ preparedness. The necessary resumption protocols must be adhered to and cleared “satisfactory” by the OEQA.

MEANWHILE, state government has said that it soon commence construction work on Lekki-Epe roads as parts of efforts to ameliorate the sufferings of commuters and improve economic activities in Lagos-East axis.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyoye, disclosed this, yesterday, during a project flag-off stakeholders’ meeting for the rehabilitation and upgrade of St. Finbars Road and Diya Street in Kosofe Local Council and Bariga Local Council Development Area.

She said the flag off of the road would be done in three weeks’ time. Adeyoye, who stated that the rehabilitation of the 4.6 kilometres St. Finbars Road and Diya Street made it three major road construction projects that had so far been embarked on in Kosofe area , said the choice of two contractors was to meet the 12 months duration in order not to aggravate the sufferings of the residents during construction.

In his speech, the Project Director, Lateef Somide, said two contractors, Messrs First August Nigeria Limited and Metropolitan Construction Company Limited, had already moved to site for the project, which scope of work would include aquatic drainages, culverts, street lights, lay-bys, among others.
