Jorginho is unlikely to join Arsenal from Chelsea between now and the close of the transfer deadline at 11pm this evening with the West London club reluctant to strengthen a top-four rival.
A number of players have made the move from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates recently, including Willian as a free agent in this window and David Luiz 12 months previous, but Frank Lampard is wary of bolstering Mikel Arteta’s side.
Jorginho finished last season out of favour, behind both N’Golo Kante and Billy Gilmour in the pecking order at defensive midfield.
But he has started this season well and scored twice from the penalty spot in Saturday’s 4-0 win against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge
Arsenal’s interest in the Italian has stemmed from them being unable to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid but seem too complex to be finalised in the next 10 hours.
The same applies with Toni Rudiger and the interest received from Tottenham Hotspur regarding a loan deal.
The German is fifth-choice centre back and free to leave but Chelsea would rather he went abroad rather than be an additional option for a Premier League rival.
One player who could swap Chelsea for another London club is Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Fulham, who remain in the market for at least one centre back on top of a midfielder, are keen on loaning the England midfielder despite costing several million pound.
The 24-year-old, who has struggled for form since recovering from a torn achilles, will be allowed to leave on a temporary deal and with Fulham not threatening near the top of the table the Jorginho principle does not apply.
Chelsea have already sent Michy Batshuayi on loan to Crystal Palace, where Loftus-Cheek enjoyed a successful spell the season before last.
