Cameroon will play Japan in a friendly match next month as part of their preparations for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The match will take place on October 9 at the Stadion Galgenwaard in Utrecht in the Netherlands.

Indomitable Lions coach Toni Conceição has already named his 32-man squad which is due to report for a training camp between October 5 and 13.

The squad features some high profile players including Ajax goalkeeper André Onana, RB Salzburg defender Jérôme Onguéné and forwards Vincent Aboubakar (Porto), Clinton Njie (Dynamo Moscow) and Jean-Pierre Nsame (Young Boys).

Among the notable omissions from the squad are winger Christian Bassogog and striker Stéphane Bahoken.

This will be the first meeting between the five-time African champions and the four-time Asian champions since the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Japan won that group stage match 1-0.

Former Paris Saint-Germain striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Torino defender Nicolas N’Koulou are the only survivors from that Group E encounter.

Despite having already qualified for the tournament as the host nation, Cameroon is participating in the qualifiers for the players to get valuable game time under their belts. Their matches and results will still count in determining the qualification of the other teams from their group.

Cameroon lies second in Group F with four points after two games. They trail leaders Mozambique who also have four points but boast a superior goal difference.
