COVID-19: Lagos Extends Market Hours

The Lagos State Government has extended the hours of operations of both food markets and non-food markets.

They are now to open at 8am and close at 6pm.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Dr. Wale Ahmed, the decision by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is to further enhance trade and commerce and mitigate the hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ahmed emphasised that the alternate days of operations will remains in force, whereby food markets open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Non-food markets open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

In the other news, the Lagos State government has predicted impending heavy rainfalls with attendant flash flood from the end of August to October 2020 in the state.

Meantime, as part of the proactive measure, the state government directed residents in high prone areas, such as: Aboyi Ketu, Agiliti, Kosofe, Ajegunle, Owode Onirin, Isheri North of the state to relocate whenever it rains and water released from Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority to avoid the incidence of loss of lives.

It, however, said it is intensifying measures to minimise the effects through the provision of pump stations with pilot phase at Iluburin.
