The coordinator of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT), Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, has issued an express warning to perpetrators of gender-based violence in the state to desist from such dastardly act, stressing that perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law.

The DSVRT coordinator yesterday issued the warning against the background of a viral Facebook post where a certain Afobaje Maiyegun boasted that he beat up his wife and that he was “waiting for her police” to come and arrest him.

The government’s agency at the forefront of addressing such action as soon as its attention was drawn to the Facebook post said it reached out to ACP Gbolahan Odugbemi, Area J Commander, who effected the arrest of the suspect of alleged domestic violence against his wife.

The statement by the DSVRTcCoordinator in part reads: “Preliminary investigation conducted revealed that this is not the first time the said Mr. Maiyegun would perpetrate such a dastardly act. A partner NGO, HerFessions Initiative was on ground to assist with the investigation.”

Vivour-Adeniyi stated further: “The case is set to be charged to court on Friday, May 15.” She reiterated the position of the state government against sexual and domestic violence, adding that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared a zero-tolerance to sexual and gender-based violence in the State and as such perpetrators will face the full weight of the law.
