Renowned activist Okiya Omtatah is in mourning after the passing of his daughter Maryanne Omtatah who succumbed to an illness said to be acute malaria.
Maryanne was a third-year student at Riara University undertaking a Diploma in diplomacy and international relations.
The sad news was broken by the activist through his twitter handle saying she died after a coma occasioned by the malaria.

Maryanne will be laid to rest on April 25 at their Kwangamor home in Teso, Busia County.
Omtatah has said the ceremony will observe all the necessary guidelines put by the government to combat the spread of coronavirus.
” I know the State has directed that burials be conducted almost immediately. However, my daughter did not die of Coronavirus, and, therefore, I will bury her next week after putting in place all logistical requirements,”
“I would like to state that we will observe anti-COVID-19 measures including limiting the number of mourners and obeying social distancing guidelines,” he said.
ODM leader Raila Odinga has consoled with Omtatah and his family praying that the loss strengthens him to keep on fighting for good governance.
“My friend Omtatah, pole on losing your daughter Marisyanna Maryanne Annuarite Omtatah, to acute malaria. I know and feel the pain of losing a child, let it strengthen you to push harder for public policies that improve lives for our people. God grant you strength to cope with the loss. Be assured you are in our thoughts and prayers,” Raila said.
