COVID-19 Data Error, Nigerians React As NCDC Makes Correction

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced that it made a mistake in the figures it released on Friday that 26 new cases were confirmed instead of 25, saying one of the cases was a previous confirmed case and not a new one.

As seen below, the health agency also said that of the 25 new cases, one which was actually from Oyo State was inadvertently referred to as a case from Osun State.

The NCDC in its daily report on its twitter handle on Saturday, said Oyo now has nine cases while Osun now has 20.

CORRECTION 1/4

On 3rd of April 2020, we reported 26 new cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. An error has been discovered in this report as follows:

We regret the error in our announcement of new #COVID19 cases in Nigeria yesterday.

The NCDC remains committed to ensuring transparency and accurate reporting of infectious disease cases in Nigeria

You don’t joke with things like this, please no more error. This is matter of life and death.

Unless there won't be no new cases today, then I see no need for the correction when you can just deduct it from today's cases

Lol

— Nto Biafra (@NtoBiafra) April 4, 2020

This is the exact reason why i suggested that .@NCDCgov ahould not provide multiple daily reports on covid-19 count. 0ne report every 24 hours is sufficient and is the practice globally. The world is watching and ncdc has done a good job so far. …..1/2

— #DefendNIGERIA. Je’ N Wi Temi! (@TheOtitokoro) April 4, 2020

2/2. Do not destroy this good effort with unreliable data and corrections. Pls follow my advice and issue only 1 report every 24 hours. Set up checks and balances before reports are released. Now, the world must now correct their database due to this error. .@MBuhari

— #DefendNIGERIA. Je’ N Wi Temi! (@TheOtitokoro) April 4, 2020

Pls these reports should be properly checked before uploading online, bcos a lot of people are really depending on NCDC to give them the lastest about covid-19 in Nigeria.. But anyway thanks for these new and correct report as u said.. And I pray we come out from these…

— IamComwell (@Heiscomwell) April 4, 2020

I'm surprised that some people are insulting them over a correction, the government is not above human error. They could have easily kept quiet about it

— lulu (@claro_queen) April 4, 2020

Why are you surprised?? Have you forgotten that we are all perfect on this app??

@AgirlieofGod see mistakes they made in the Press releases of yesterday being corrected.
They're humans, can make mistakes.
Their workload is crazy, efficiency will could elude sometimes.

Mistakes happen, but the most important thing is to retrace and announce it. It’s no big deal if they miscalculated the results from yesterday.

We move on.

Nobody is perfect but you are making this type of mistake too many times! Don't be so quick to announce, accuracy is very important!

— RAREBREED ♈ (@Loadedbrodah) April 4, 2020

They are being Honest because if they don't want us to know about it they can easily subtract one from the next batch of positive cases and no one will know.

Let's try to be considerate please.

Most of us can't even near the Lab talk more of doing the testing.
