Man kills wife for allegedly not remitting N5000

A 42-year-old fisherman, Mr. Ejiro Patrick, of KM 14, Tyo Mu, Gboko road yesterday went berserk and killed his wife for refusing to remit ₦N5,000 to him after selling some items for the family.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Sewuese Anene, said the reason for the violence that ended up at the riverside was that the wife had sold some items for the family and did not remit ₦N5,000, which was proceed of the sale.

“Yes, we have gotten information about the killing of a woman by her husband at KM 14, Tyo-Mu Gboko road. We learnt that the suspect beat up his wife to a state of coma and the victim was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital where she was confirmed dead.

“The body of the deceased has been deposited at BSU Teaching Hospital morgue. The victim bled from her nose. The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody while investigation into the matter is in progress,” the PPRO added.Also yesterday, a woman stabbed her husband, Jude Madu, over alleged infidelity in Imo State. A Facebook user and friend of the victim, Chinonso Chibuogwu, claimed the incident happened in Owerri, Imo.

Sharing graphic photographs of the injured man in the hospital, Chibuogwu said the wife of Mmadu suspected her husband was cheating on her and stabbed him twice while he was asleep. He managed to wake up and escaped before she could do more harm to him.Chibuogwu wrote: “Just visited my friend, Mr. Jude Mmadu at Federal Medical Centre, Owerri this morning. His wife tried to kill him because she suspected that he has a side chic somewhere. Thank God after stabbing him twice as he was sleeping, he managed to wake up and escape.

“Just yesterday I talked about this. Husbands be careful this year because the spirit of ‘stabbing’ is seriously roaming about and those about to marry, you better put it on hold first till we are able to organise special prayer over this new development. I know cheating is not the only sin in this world and men are not the only people cheating. Cheaters and stabbers, beware!!!”

Meanwhile, a magistrates’ court in Abeokuta on Wednesday ordered that a 37-year-old man, Mutiu Sonola, who allegedly beat his wife to death for disobeying him, be remanded in a custodial centre, pending legal advice. Magistrate Olakunleyin Oke, who did not take the plea of Sonola, ordered the police to return the case file to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, for legal advice.

Oke adjourned the case until April 2, for mention.Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp. Olubalogun Lawrence, told the court that Sonola, committed the offence on December 25, 2019 at about 2p.m., at Ijeun Tutun area in Abeokuta.

Lawrence alleged that Sonola killed his wife, Zanain Sotayo, aged 34. He alleged that the deceased on Christmas day, told Sonola that she was invited over to her boss’ home for Christmas celebration.

“Sonola did not permit her to go. The two engaged in an argument and he beat her up, pushed her and she hit her head against the wall. Unfortunately, when she was taken to the General Hospital, Ijaye, the doctor confirmed that she was dead,” he said.The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 316 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.
