The Federal High Court, Asaba, Delta State has fixed 12th February 2020 for a hearing of the lawsuit filed by Anthony Okolie against President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter Hanan, Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) and the Department of State Service (DSS).

Okolie was arrested and detained by the DSS for a period of 10 weeks for using an MTN sim card previously used by Hanan Buhari.

“The sim card became redundant and was recycled to the market for sale (after Hanan stopped using it),” Okolie’s lawyer Tope Akinyode said.

“Okolie lawfully bought the sim card after years of redundancy unknown to him who the previous owner was.”

Akinyode said Okolie’s detention was unlawful because he has the receipt for the purchase of the sim card and all other documents pertaining to the sim card.

In the lawsuit, Okolie is demanding a N500m compensation and public apology for the violation of his fundamental human rights.

The case has been assigned to Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of Court 2, Federal High, Asaba, Delta State and will come up before the court on 12th February 2020.

Akinyode maintained that the lawsuit will serve as “an eternal caution against flagrant abuse of power by public officers.”
