2024 WAFCONQ: Super Falcons thrash Cape Verde 5-0 in first leg

Super Falcons of Nigeria thrash Cape Verde 5-0 in the 2024 WAFCON second round, first leg qualifier at the MKO Abiola stadium, Abuja on Thursday.

Uchenna Kanu and Esther Okoronkwo each scored two goals while Gift Monday netted one goal.

The game saw the return of Deborah Abiodun whose last appearance for the Falcons was at the 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup against Canada.

Kanu gave the Falcons the lead on seven minutes before Monday doubled the lead in the 25th minute.

In the 45th minute Kanu got her second goal to put the Falcons 3-0 ahead.

Substitute Okoronkwo then got the fourth goal in the 66th minute and added the fifth in the 77th minute.

The second leg will come up on Tuesday, 5 December, 2023.

The winner over two legs will qualify for the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco.

At the 2022 edition which also took place in Morocco the Falcons placed fourth.
