Mmobuosi’s ‘£115m takeover’ of Sheffield United at risk of collapse
Dozy Mmobuosi watched from the stands as Sheffield United defeated Reading 1-0 earlier this season.

Dozy Mmobuosi’s takeover attempt of Sheffield United is on the brink of collapse, according to reports. The Mail say the Nigerian businessman’s relationship with the club current owner, Prince Abdullah, has broken down to such an extent that the ownership deal for the Championship side is in major jeopardy.

The news comes just hours after Yorkshire Live reported that the Blades were planning for life beyond Mmobuosi, with his buyout having dragged on for a number of months.

The Mail claim Mmobuosi has pumped close to £9million into United since November to help the cash-strapped Blades fulfil their financial obligations on the expectation his protracted purchased would be ratified early this year.

Mmobuosi, the founder of agri-fintech firm, Tingo, was granted a period of exclusivity after reportedly agreeing a deal with Abdullah for £115m to buy the club at London’s Dorchester Hotel last November.

But Mmobuosi has been under EFL scrutiny, which first started at the turn of the year, as he looked to satisfy the governing body’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test and the deal has slowed.

It is thought Mmobuosi and Abdullah’s relationship has become increasingly fraught in recent weeks.

The Mail say they are now effectively at war with each other amid assertions Mmobuosi made substantial cash deposits in good faith to help preserve the club’s future

United’s Paul Heckingbottom revealed last week that he is planning for life under the current ownership and Prince Abdullah met with the Blades boss prior to Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final with Man City and plans to speak again.
