The Senate has confirmed and screened Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Justice Ariwoola was appointed as CJN by President Muhammadu Buhari after the sudden resignation of former Chief Justice Muhammad Tanko, who resigned on health grounds on 27 June 2022.

The motions to screen Ariwoola on Wednesday were moved by the Senate Leader, Senator Ibrahim Gobir, at the plenary at 11:35 am.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had called for the screening exercise to be moved forward from where it was listed on the order paper.
