On Saturday, the Police Command in Kogi announced that two more bodies had been found following a bandit raid on merchants in Bagana village, Omala Local Government Area, Kogi.

The finding brought the death toll from Thursday’s bandit attack on traders to three, SP William Ovye-Aya, the Kogi Police Command spokesperson, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja.

According to Ovye-Aya, who spoke to NAN on Friday, only one person—a tricycle rider—was killed in the event, while two traders suffered significant injuries.

“However, I want to report to you and the general public that the number of deaths has increased to three as a result of the finding of two additional dead corpses by our team this morning, Saturday, September 10.

“When the tragedy occurred, we first confirmed one person against widespread suspicion of four victims.

“However, two more remains were discovered and reported to the Command after our team conducted a thorough search of the jungle.

Because of this, he explained, “just three people perished in the unfortunate attack on those defenseless merchants in Bagana, while the two injured were treated at the hospital in Abejukolo town.

“Our police and men are seriously seeking out for the hoodlums to assure their capture and conviction,” Ovye-Aya stated, despite the fact that no one has been apprehended.

Recall that on that particular day, the victims—all Abejukolo Community residents—went to Bagana Market to conduct business. However, as they were returning home from the Market at approximately 8.30 p.m. on Thursday, they were allegedly attacked by bandits.

The attackers opened fire on the victims as they were riding in a tricycle known as a “Keke Napep,” killing three people—including the rider—and wounded two others.
