Economic, social activities resume in Enugu State

Economic, social activities resume in Enugu State
[FILES] Deserted Coal Camp, Enugu State, during the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) recently.

Economic and social activities, yesterday, returned to Enugu as many residents and businesses opened for activities.

But the banks, the secretariat of the Enugu State government, public schools and big markets in the state remained under lock and key.

This could, however, be a result of fear of being attacked by certain elements masquerading as enforcers of the sit-at-home order in the state.

However, unlike previous Mondays in the state since August 9, 2021, when the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) declared sit-at-home in solidarity with its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday was a bit different as residents freely moved and opened their businesses early.

Apart from the private, commercial cab and tricycle operators, some petrol stations operating in the state and other mini markets were fully in business.

There were also some private schools that operated in the state.

The IPOB had last Thursday frowned on the continued sit-at-home in the zone, saying the action was not acceptable to it when it had previously cancelled the exercise.

The group, in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, asked residents to resume their normal activities on Mondays and vowed to deal with anyone found enforcing a sit-at-home in the zone.
