PDP chiefs reject Anyanwu as party scribe
Samuel Anyanwu

Some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East have rejected Senator Sam-Daddy Anyanwu as the consensus candidate for the party’s secretary in the zone

According to a statement, yesterday, by a National Ex-Officio from Imo State, Chief Madu Chinemerem, former governors of Anambra and Imo, Peter Obi, Achike Udenwa and Emeka Ihedioha, among others, said what transpired at the PDP meeting on Thursday, October 14, 2021 in Enugu could best be described as a stalemate.

The meeting, according to them, didn’t elect Anyanwu to represent the South East as PDP National Secretary, but that Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and his Abia counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu, merely came to the meeting and announced the selection of Anyanwu.

Most of the people, who attended the meeting, according to the PDP chieftains, vehemently objected to it and refused to accept it.

Chinemerem added: “The entire Anambra delegation led by Obi rejected it. Imo delegates led by Ihedioha and Udenwa also rejected it. The state chairmen of some of the states also said no. The meeting ended without any agreement.

“What was most annoying to South East leaders was that Anyanwu is being imposed on them by a governor from South South, who nominated him. He is forcing down his choice on the governors from the South East, just because he serves as his Special Assistant. The meeting was also attended by former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, as well as Onyema Ugochukwu, Senator Uche Ekwunife, and many others, most of whom didn’t agree with the imposition of Anyanwu as Secretary as he wasn’t a product of the zone.”
