The Kenyan government plans to fully vaccinate 30 million people against COVID-19 by the end of 2022, Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe said as the country targets more daily inoculations.

The plan targets the country’s entire adult population, and if achieved, will see 60 percent of the entire population inoculated.

Kenya has already received 5,146,780 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines and has fully inoculated more than 826,000 people.

The minister said the government will increase it vaccination posts nationwide to capture more people daily.

“In this accelerated phase, as the global supply chain improves, the country will get 20 million doses of different types of WHO approved quality assured vaccines including 13 million doses of single shot Johnson and Johnson procured through the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) of the African Union mechanism. In tandem, vaccination posts will be increased from the current 800 to 3,000,” local KBC television quotes Kagwe to have said.

Currently, the vaccines available for use in Kenya are AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna. Sinopharm and Pfizer vaccine doses are expected in the country before the end of September.

Kenya has so far recorded 243,456 COVID1 infections with 4,902 fatalities.
