Spanish league is tough, competitive – Oshoala
Asisat Oshoala

Super Falcons captain, Assisat Oshoola, has said that among the top leagues where she has plied her trade, the Spanish women’s league still remains the toughest.
The FC Barcelona women’s team forward, who once played in the English and Chinese leagues, stated that these leagues instilled in her tactical discipline and experience.
“Playing in the English and Chinese leagues was a great experience for me. But I think my career in the Spanish League with FC Barcelona is the toughest for me, so far, based on the high level of competition in their league,” she said.

Oshoala noted that her vision as a young player was to give 100 per cent commitment to the club and national team assignments.

“Well, I am still young and still believe I have a better future ahead of me. I cannot rate myself above the standard of any former female Nigerian footballers. I respect every player’s commitment in the Super Falcons,” the FC Barcelona Femeni forward revealed.

She also said that the current Super Falcons coach’s decision to invite foreign players of Nigerian descent for screening into the women’s national team would go a long way to bringing more competition to the team.

On the new coach’s performance, so far, she said, “the players are delighted working with him. I am happy that Nigerian players born abroad are now interested in playing for the Super Falcons. The development would help to bring in more competition to the team.

“I believe the Super Falcons’ success so far in the continent and other international championships have attracted the foreign-born players for them to be interested in playing for Nigeria rather than the country they were born.

“As a young player I am working hard to win more laurels for the Super Falcons and booking the ticket for the next Olympics remains my target,” she said.

Oshoala added that churning out talents from her girl-child football programme, which have seen some of the players earn Super Falcons call up, is a remarkable achievement for her.

“When I see the products of my girl-child football programme as my teammates in the national team, I feel happy and encouraged to continue giving my best to create more avenues for female footballers to exhibit their skills. Female footballers don’t get the chance to play in more grassroots competitions like their male counterparts. So, it is my desire to provide more platforms for players to excel,” she stated.
