
Health experts in Zimbabwe appealed to employers to comply with a government directive to have majority of employees work from home to decongest work spaces in order to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
In late June, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced enhanced COVID-19 Level 4 lockdown measures including an order to industry to decongest staff to 40 percent of the workforce with the rest working from home.
Essential services, however, were exempted from the directive.
Zimbabwe is experiencing is third wave of COVID-19 infections and deaths and has so far reported 65,066 confirmed cases and 2,084 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.
The capital Harare and the country’s second-largest city Bulawayo have been identified as the regions facing the highest risk of the deadly third wave.
Health officials have warned the current level of COVID-19 infections being reported could strain the health sector.
