Amid the entertainment doldrums of this year, this is the perfect time to discover something new. For the month of June 2021, based on their exposure in the media space, here are the top five Nigerian movies you must not miss.

1. Ayinla

Ayinla is a film that tells the story of Nigerian musician, Ayinla Omowura, who used Apala music to address issues of contemporary society – commending and criticizing various governmental and individual acts.

2. My Village People

After returning to his local village for his sister’s wedding, a player named Prince finds himself being hunted by forces that he struggles to escape due to his selfish and womanizing ways.

My Village People is written by Bovi Ugboma and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan with a 24% media share.

3. RattleSnake – The Ahanna Story

This is the story of a young man who lived through injustice and inequality; one day, he had enough.

Rattlesnake – the Ahanna story was produced by Charles Okpaleke and directed by Ramsey Nouah with a 14% media share.

4. Devil In Agbada

Three young strangers team up to bring down a very ruthless politician in a mission that involves infiltrating his heavily guarded and impenetrable mansion.

Devil In Agbada caused quite the buzz in March with its stunning poster featuring its leading ladies,  Erica Nlewedim, Efe Eriele, and Linda Osifo.

The movie was directed by Chinneylove Eze, Umanu Elijah with a 12% media share.

5. Lockdown

The movie draws a lot of inspiration from the tragic events of 2014 complete with a questionable scene where Doctor Alexis Njoku comes in close contact with a Libyan patient infected with the fictional Holovirus.

‘Lockdown’ written and directed by Moses Inwang 5% media share follows the story of individuals who unfortunately in the words of Ekeinde’s character are “unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time”.
