Western Conference NBA Lakers’ LeBron James was in violation of the National Basketball Association’s health and safety protocols after attending an event on Monday according to a spokesperson for the NBA.
The spokesperson affirms that the self-styled “King” James was one of several high-profile guests present at a promotional event for Lobos 1707, a tequila brand he backs, earlier this week before the Lakers’ play-in game against the Golden State Warriors, which the Lakers won with the 16-time All-Star’s contribution making the difference.
The Lobo’s 1707 event included a brief outdoor photo shoot, where invitees, including recording artist Drake and actor Michael B. Jordan, had to produce proof of vaccination or a recent negative test result before being allowed in-person participation.
What pictures from the event however reveal is that the Lakers’ forward was not wearing a mask while at the event around others.
So far the 36-year-old has opted not to reveal his stance on the vaccine. He evaded providing a direct answer when specifically asked if the possibility of missing time due to health and safety protocols influenced his feelings towards the vaccine.
At the moment, it remains uncertain if the breach of protocols at the Lobos 1707 event will affect the four-time MVP’s status for Game 1 of the Lakers’ first-round series against the Phoenix Suns in Sunday’s playoffs game.
The NBA spokesman said: “It’s a violation of the agreed upon protocols, and, as we have in other comparable instances around the league, it has been addressed with the team.”
