FCT: Out-of school children to benefit from AREAi’s literacy, numeracy skills
Out-of-school children

At least 1000 out-of-school children from marginalised northern communities will benefit from a literacy and numeracy skills development programme organised by Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative (AREAi) and Life Builders Initiative for Education and Societal Integration (LBI).
The initiative, tagged Fast Track, will provide accelerated literacy and numeracy skills development to disadvantaged children in several fragile or conflict-affected communities across Northern Nigeria. In 10 months, the initiative will address the global learning crisis, which necessitates the need to equip children with the knowledge, tools, and support to develop foundational learning skills for lifelong learning, empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods.

The project will ensure that children between ages five to 14 in underserved communities can access quality education and have the same opportunities as boys and girls in other parts of the world.

Using the Mavis Education Model that supports cost-effectiveness in educating out-of-school children in their local languages, beneficiaries of the initiative should have developed both literacy and numeracy skills within 10 months with better learning gains on the lower level.

According to Director, AREAi, Prince Gideon Olanrewaju, the initiative will also ensure the implementation of Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) methodology in local context.
