New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Friday that all COVID-19 restrictions imposed in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city have been lifted. “I can now confirm that cabinet has agreed to move Auckland out of COVID alert level 2 as of midday today.” she said.

This follows six days of Auckland being at Alert level 2 with seven days prior to that at alert level three, the increase in alert levels was due to the Auckland frippery cluster, 15 positive community cases outside managed isolation facilities. However all of those 15 cases are now either in a quarantine facility or have recovered.

“I know everyone in our largest city will be looking forward to a weekend with fewer restrictions, with life feeling mostly back to normal and Auckland deserves that. Once again, the city has stepped up and did what it needed to do in the face of this new community cases.” Jacinda Ardern said.

New Zealand started its national rollout of vaccines in February and expects to inoculate its entire population by the end of 2021.
