Thomas Tuchel: We not only had possession but good possession in the opponent half, in the last 20 metres we lacked quality and that is the truth. We lacked determination, aggressiveness and more one on one chances. We controlled 80 metres, all counter attacks and when you control the match like this and you need a penalty to score, you see the problem is clear.

“N’Golo Kante was excellent, Mateo Kovacic was too and generally they were strong. We need to take the opportunities for counter-attacks, use our speed better and if we don’t do it, it gets harder and harder to score. We did not take the chances today.” [BBC Sport]

Thomas Tuchel: “Yes we had all chances and all possibilities to win. We were very good in 80 metres of the pitch but the last 20 I wasn’t happy.”

Mason Mount: We had a lot of control in the first half. We spoke at half-time. We didn’t create enough in the final third. It was poor.

“They had one chance and scored, they caught us off guard. It means a little bit more to me. But the most important thing was to get the win.

“We need to win these games if we want to be up there. We need to look at what went wrong. I was next on penalty duty. I was always confident.”
