There was pandemonium in Effurn, near Warri, yesterday, as gunmen again, killed a mobile policeman along the Airport Road and carted away his gun.

Another mobile policeman on escort duty was killed last week in a Church at Otor-Ogor near Ughelli and his rifle taken away.
Details of the Effurun incident was still sketchy at press time, but when contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the killing of the police officer.

Onevwakpoyeya, however, declined giving details as he was waiting for information from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
BESIDES, no fewer than six persons, including two babies, reportedly died yesterday in a fatal motor accident at Ibusa, near Asaba, Oshimili North Council Area of Delta State.

An eyewitness told The Guardian that the accident occurred close to ADP Farms in Ibusa, saying two vehicles using one lane due to the ongoing construction work on one of the lanes, rammed into each other, which resulted in the casualties.

About six other persons were severely injured in the accident involving a Rodinna fast food vehicle conveying provisions and a commercial bus with passengers.

“Six persons died including two new born babies while about six other persons were injured,” he added. But when contacted, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Delta State Command, Uchechukwu Wihioka, confirmed that four persons died, during rescue operation and attributed the accident to recklessness of the drivers.

MEANWHILE, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police (CP), Andrew Amiengheme, has cautioned against jungle justice, saying those who engage in the act will be identified, apprehended and prosecuted.

He stated this in a statement issued by the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko Macdon in Uyo.
Amiengheme, who expressed displeasure over the recent increase in jungle justice by irate mob in the state, noted that jungle justice was a travesty of justice, as it does not guarantee fairness to anyone and may lead to the death of innocent persons.

He described the act as a descent into the Hobbesian state of anarchy and would, therefore, not be tolerated as it negates the subsisting constitutional provisions and has no place in criminal justice administration.
