Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz is back in full training.
And that is not the only good news for Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel as Kurt Zouma has also resumed training after the pair had to leave Wednesday morning’s session having picked up “little issues”.
“We had two little issues today on the training pitch,” Tuchel confirmed in his pre-Tottenham press conference. “It was Kurt Zouma and Kai Havertz who went off the pitch with little issues so they are checking issues and doing images right now.
“It is questionable if they are in the squad for tomorrow. Everyone else is available.”
As it turned out, neither player made the Chelsea matchday squad for the 1-0 win in the London derby.
The good news for Tuchel, as seen in the images below, Havertz and Zouma were both in full training ahead of Sunday’s clash away at Sheffield United.
Taking part in Friday’s session alongside the likes of Olivier Giroud, Billy Gilmour, Hakim Ziyech, and Tammy Abraham, the sight of the £71m signing as well as the defender in training is certainly a boost for the Blues.
But whether either player makes the matchday squad against the Blades remains to be seen.
Zouma’s return to training is certainly a massive boost for Tuchel.
The Frenchman has been overlooked for Tuchel’s first two matches in charge as he has switched to a back three of Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva as his central three supported by two wing-backs.
However, the latter is a doubt for the game at Bramall Lane after limping out of the win at Spurs.
And as revealed by Tuchel, Thiago Silva may not be available for the weekend’s clash against the Blades.
“It will be very tight for Sunday,” Tuchel said after the win over Spurs. “It is only in two days but it is hard to give a diagnosis because I saw him only very quickly in the dressing room with a big strap around his muscle.
“We will have to wait until tomorrow (Friday) so we can confirm it but I think for Sunday he is a big doubt and I don’t think that he can play.”
