The Red Devils face Everton on the 63rd anniversary of the Munich air disaster.
Solskjaer wants his players to deliver a fitting display to commemorate the date.
Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s clash against Everton, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “It’s only the fourth time the game is played on the actual anniversary and it’s important that we put on a fitting performance.
“Hopefully we can honour them with the result. It’s such an important part of our history and the spirit of the club. We have spoken to the players who come into the club, who’ve not been here and are part of this anniversary.
“It’s a big day for everyone and it has always been an emotional day for everyone. Hopefully we can put the team out that shows the Manchester United spirit. We have 6 or 7 of the academy graduates and hopefully they’ll lead us on.”
The Munich air disaster on February 6, 1958, is one of the most tragic moments in the history of football with the plane crash killing 23 people (including 8 Man United players and 3 staff members).
The Red Devils’ players who lost their lives on that day are Geoff Bent, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Eddie Colman, Liam Whelan, Tommy Taylor, Roger Byrne and Duncan Edwards.
Last year, Solskjaer and his staff attended a special memorial on the anniversary of the tragedy but such event is unlikely to take place now amid the Covid-19 restrictions.
